How Rankings Work
Rankings use a smart composite scoring system that prevents unrealistic scores while rewarding balanced performance
Scoring Factors:
- Speed (50%): Average WPM with diminishing returns for extreme speeds
- Accuracy (40%): Heavily weighted - precision matters!
- Consistency (10%): Experience bonus for regular practice
Quality Filters:
- WPM capped at 200 for realistic results
- High speed + low accuracy tests filtered out
- Minimum 10 second test duration required
Leaderboard FAQ
How often are leaderboard rankings updated?
Rankings are recalculated in real time every time someone completes a qualifying typing test, so the leaderboard always reflects the latest results.
What counts as a qualifying test for the leaderboard?
A test must run for at least 10 seconds and stay within realistic speed and accuracy bounds. WPM is capped at 200 and high-speed, low-accuracy tests are filtered out to prevent inflated scores.
Can I filter the leaderboard by difficulty or time period?
Yes. Use the filters above the rankings to view Today, This Week, This Month, This Year, or All-Time leaders, and to filter by Easy, Intermediate, Hard, or Expert difficulty.
Is the leaderboard the same for every region and language?
Yes, TypeOut.io has one global leaderboard shared across all languages and regions, so English, Spanish, and Portuguese-speaking typists all compete on the same rankings.
How do I get on the leaderboard?
Create a free account and complete at least one typing test that meets the minimum duration and quality filters. Your best scores are automatically included in the rankings.
